Leslie Irvin designed the Irvin Sheepskin Flying Jacket for pilots flying during WWII, it went on to become the definitive flying jacket, recognised the world over. In 1977, with the blessing and support of the Irvin GB company, Aviation Leathercraft recommenced production of the Irvin Original sheepskin jacket.
As well as making the genuine Irvin sheepskin flying jacket we produce sheepskin trousers and a lightweight version of the original Irvin jacket. We’ve also designed a sheepskin motoring jacket, the Monza, which incorporates many of the features and tailoring techniques of the original Irvin.
All of our sheepskin is prepared especially for us and we’re delighted to have sourced a very hard-wearing, high grade sheepskin. The sheepskin we settled upon is the most beautifully supple skin we’ve ever encountered. Combining this quality of material with craft skills of the highest order allows us to produce jackets here in England that endure.
Our jackets really can last you a lifetime and you know how it will be, your jacket will stop being a jacket and become a friend. The more you wear it the more it becomes part of you. You’ll realise you were wearing it when you took your first flying lesson, then you’ll realise you’re still wearing it when you celebrate 25 years in the air. Maybe it’ll be with you when you hear news of your first-born and it’ll still be with you as you celebrate their coming of age. We don’t think our jackets ever wear-out, but over time they wear-in beautifully.
